The stories also point to a broader engineering problem. Instructions alone are not reliable security boundaries. Agent systems need infrastructure level containment, restricted network access, strong authorization, behavioral telemetry, dependency verification, and controls that remain enforceable regardless of what the model decides to do.
The vulnerability environment is changing at the same time. Rapid7 reported 8,539 high and critical severity disclosures in Q2 2026, along with a significant increase in public proof of concept code and a patch to exploit window approaching zero for some vulnerabilities. That puts additional pressure on organizations to prioritize remediation based on actual exposure and reachability instead of severity scores alone.
