Spaghetti & Marshmallows is a physics building game. You build towers, bridges and arms out of spaghetti and marshmallows, and the spaghetti bends and snaps the way the real thing does. It runs in a browser, as an installable web app and as an Android APK.
Current version: 2.0.1. It has 61 levels in seven worlds, a tutorial, a free build mode and a Daily Tower
What the game is
You tap to place a marshmallow. You drag out from a marshmallow to draw a strand of spaghetti up to 25 cm long. A strand can end on another marshmallow, or in the air.
Everything you place starts falling or sagging right away. You build while the structure is already trying to collapse. There is no pause to plan, and no button that switches the physics on afterward.
Three rules explain most of the game:
- Triangles hold. Squares fold flat.
- Spaghetti is brittle. Bend a strand too far, or overload where it grips a marshmallow, and it snaps. A strand glows red just before it goes, and every snap dips into slow motion.
- A marshmallow grips a new strand firmly for a few seconds, then loosens. A strand sticking out of a marshmallow holds for a moment, then sags.
The idea comes from the marshmallow challenge: teams get spaghetti and marshmallows, and try to build the tallest freestanding tower in eighteen minutes.
The levels
| World | Levels | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Marshmallow School | 4 | The tutorial: placing, triangles, repairing a ladder, reaching a ring |
| Picnic Meadow | 10 | Rings in the air, baskets across a ditch, a rock to arch over, stepping stones, twin goals |
| Kitchen Counter | 10 | Earthquakes and a swaying shelf, a toaster, a low ceiling, tight spaghetti |
| Birthday Party | 9 | Wind, cake steps, a tall tower, a flag on top of a cake |
| Candy Land | 9 | Slippery icing, a low gate, cliffs, two goals at different heights |
| Rooftop Run | 9 | Wide gaps, chimneys, a wall, a tunnel, a bridge that goes down |
| Space Station | 10 | Low gravity, floating platforms, a swaying deck, a final level with three goals |
The levels combine a few building problems: a bridge across a gap, an arch over an obstacle, a climb up ledges, a slide down from a high start, a tunnel under a ceiling, and two or three goals filled at the same time. Each world’s hazard changes how those feel.
Levels give one to three stars, depending on how much spaghetti and how many marshmallows you use. The 💡 button shows a dotted outline of a build that works. Using it caps that level at two stars, and it costs a free hint or 30 coins.
Sharing
- Clips. The game keeps the last few seconds of play. You can save or share them as a short video.
- Challenge links. A link carries your whole build, every move included. A friend can watch it rebuild itself, then try to beat your height.
- Daily Tower. Everyone gets the same rules each day. Your score is the tallest height your tower holds for three seconds. The WordPress version has a daily leaderboard. It runs on the honor system, because the server cannot check that a tower was really built.
Coins, shop and awards
Levels earn coins. A first clear pays the most. Replaying a finished level pays a few coins, plus a bonus for each extra star. A daily gift pays more each day for seven days in a row.
Coins buy about twenty cosmetic items: marshmallow flavors, hats and spaghetti styles. They do not change the physics. There are also 13 achievements.
Controls and saving
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Place a marshmallow | Tap |
| Draw spaghetti | Drag out from a marshmallow |
| Undo the last piece | Undo button, or Z |
| Pause | Pause button, or P |
| Full screen | Full screen button; on a phone, turn it sideways |
Progress is saved automatically on your device, including a tower you were halfway through building. You can move your progress to another device with a save code in the settings. There is no account and no cloud save.
Sound
It has seven tracks, one for the title and tutorial and one for each other world. The parts fade in and out as your build grows. Settings has separate volume for music and effects, a vibration switch for phones, and a calm mode with no screen shake or slow motion. It also has a button that saves any track as a WAV file.
Play it
- In the player above. It works on a phone or a computer.
- As an installed app. Use your browser’s install option. It then works offline.
- On Android. There is a signed APK.
